Alessandro Armuzzi leads the IBD Unit at the Complesso Integrato Columbus, Catholic University of Rome, Italy. He gained his MD from the University of Bologna, and completed his Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology training at the Catholic University of Rome, as well as advanced research and clinical training in IBD at the John Radcliffe Hospital – Oxford University Hospitals, UK. Dr Armuzzi’s research interests focus on the genetics of IBD (past), diagnostic modalities to assess Crohn’s disease activity, clinical prediction and outcomes in clinical trials, and biologic therapy in IBD. He serves as member of several gastroenterology associations (Italian Group for the study of Inflammatory Bowel Disease; Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Gastroenterology), as Chair of the ClinCom of ECCO, and he has authored many IBD publications.
